In this short blog post, Singing Champion Lisa Mayo reports on one of her visits to primary schools in the county. To find out more about Lisa’s plans see the Singing Section on the Make Music Gloucestershire website.

It was such a delight to meet with Sue Carpenter and the lovely pupils at St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Bromesberrow this month.  I went to visit Sue as part of the free consultation offer that was publicised in the 30th June schools e-newsletter (there will be another this week – check out the archive for the full list including a link to this week’s when it’s published).

It was great to hear how passionate Sue and the school is about singing, and how they regularly sing together as a whole school as well as having a dedicated choir.  I was thrilled when the pupils, aged from Reception to Year 6, offered to sing one of their favourite songs for me outside.  The young singers weren’t phased at all and I heard from confident soloists and small ensembles within the group which was then quickly followed by rousing choruses sung by the whole school! What a joy to see such happy pupils sharing their love of singing together – that’s what it’s all about after all.  A great sense of community spirit!

Thank you Sue and all the pupils who performed.  I hope to meet other choirs and classes who enjoy singing in other schools around the County in September.  Various schools have already booked an appointment with me but please email me if you would like a free visit to your school next term as well:
